We’re pleased to recognize Spiro Kantzavelos for completing his 2026 summer internship with the firm, an experience centered on market research, fundamentals, and hands-on exposure to the day-to-day work of an Indianapolis commercial real estate brokerage. Spiro joined Allies on June 8, 2026, and completed his internship on August 6, 2026. During his time with the team, he worked alongside market research professionals, brokers, and senior leadership, gaining practical insight into how research, property analysis, client service, and brokerage operations converge in commercial real estate. A rising sophomore at Indiana University Bloomington studying finance, Spiro came to Allies with a strong interest in real estate and a desire to better understand the industry from inside an active brokerage environment.
A Summer Experience Connected to the CREwithMe Mission
Spiro’s internship reflects the same learn-by-doing philosophy behind CREwithMe, the firm’s talent-development platform for aspiring commercial real estate professionals. CREwithMe is designed around hands-on experience, professional mentorship, market analysis, and practical skill development. The program gives emerging professionals exposure to the work and decision-making involved in building a career in commercial real estate. While Spiro participated through Allies’ 2026 summer internship experience, his time with the firm provided an early introduction to many of the same principles that guide CREwithMe: learn from active professionals, understand the market, ask thoughtful questions, and gain experience through meaningful participation rather than observation alone. For Spiro, that started with market research.
Building a Foundation in Commercial Real Estate Market Research
Market research plays an important role in how professionals understand property fundamentals, evaluate opportunities, and advise clients. During his internship, Spiro worked alongside the Allies market research team and developed greater familiarity with the information behind those decisions. His work included exposure to market fundamentals, capital market transactions, and emerging trends in commercial real estate. He also supported ongoing research activities while learning how market information can contribute to property evaluations and broader brokerage strategy.
Connecting Research to Underwriting and Valuation
Spiro also had the opportunity to work with and learn from senior leadership as he expanded his understanding of underwriting and valuation. For a finance student considering a future in commercial real estate, this provided an opportunity to connect concepts learned in the classroom with how real estate professionals evaluate properties, assess market conditions, and structure potential transactions in practice. His curiosity and willingness to ask thoughtful questions helped him make the most of that exposure throughout the summer.
Learning How a Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Operates
Spiro’s experience extended beyond the research desk. Throughout the internship, he shadowed Allies brokers and staff, attended meetings and property tours, and assisted with research, marketing, and administrative projects. These experiences gave him a broader view of the various functions required to support clients and advance CRE assignments. He also gained exposure to brokerage operations and business development, helping him see how market knowledge, relationships, analysis, communication, and execution work together throughout the commercial real estate process. That broader perspective is an important part of Allies’ approach to developing emerging talent. Understanding commercial real estate requires more than becoming familiar with properties. It requires understanding the businesses behind the properties and the decisions clients are trying to make.
Professionalism, Curiosity, and a Strong Work Ethic
Throughout his internship, Spiro demonstrated professionalism, dependability, initiative, and a genuine interest in learning more about commercial real estate. His internship completion letter recognized his willingness to embrace new opportunities, ask thoughtful questions, and continually expand his understanding of the industry. He also handled his responsibilities with integrity and respected the confidentiality of Allies’ clients and business operations. Those qualities made Spiro a valued part of the office throughout the summer and supported his development as he gained experience in an unfamiliar professional environment.
A Competitive Mindset On and Off the Ice
Spiro brought a competitive background with him to the Allies. Before attending Indiana University, he played AAA hockey with the local Indiana Elite program. The discipline, teamwork, resilience, and competitive drive developed through hockey have continued to influence his approach to academics and professional development. Outside of school and commercial real estate, Spiro enjoys staying active, playing golf, supporting the Indiana Hoosiers, and following the Toronto Maple Leafs. As he returns to Indiana University Bloomington to continue studying finance, he will carry with him a stronger understanding of commercial real estate and the roles that research, analysis, collaboration, and professional relationships play in the industry.
Looking Ahead to the Next Chapter
Spiro’s completion of the 2026 summer internship represents an important early step in his commercial real estate development, but his connection with Allies is not expected to end with this summer. Spiro plans to return to Allies next year, allowing him to build on the foundation he established during his first internship and continue expanding his knowledge of commercial real estate. For Allies, investing in students and emerging professionals is also an investment in the future of the commercial real estate industry. Experiences like Spiro’s provide young professionals with an opportunity to understand the business firsthand while bringing fresh perspectives, curiosity, and energy into the firm. We appreciate Spiro’s contributions throughout the summer and are grateful he chose to spend this stage of his professional development with Allies.
We look forward to following his continued growth at Indiana University and welcoming him back as he takes the next steps in his journey.
